This August, at Regent’s Park, the Aspire team took part in another of LGN Run Club’s popular Inter Advertising 5K races. Perfect for both the speedy club runner and happy plodder, the friendly event offers competitors the chance to run both individually and as part of a team. What more could you possibly want, right?

After a podium finish and a number of PBs in 2018, it didn’t take much persuading for us to sign up again this year. After our place was confirmed, we went about strategically recruiting our team. When happy with our group of finely tuned athletes, we were then all set for what we hoped would be another fun event.

On race day, the park was busy and the sun was shining. It was a great day for running and we couldn’t wait to get started. Dressed to impress in our new team t-shirts, we met as a group, pinned on our race numbers and warmed up before the 6pm start. The time had almost come – so, in unison, we tightened our On trainers and headed to the start line.

The race began; runners frantically scurried away from the grassy start line and towards the nearby path. From here, the course took us along the park’s flat and winding paths. And while the route wasn’t closed-off, there was more than enough space for park goers to enjoy their evening stroll safely – and with a front-row view of the race itself.

As is always the case, the faster runners took off and led from the front – but it was great to see everyone run their own race. The support for each team was brilliant towards the finish line, and it was nice to take in some of the sights throughout the race – notably, the noises coming from the zoo were a particular highlight for many of the team…

All in all, the race was great fun. Like many of the team, I managed to clock a PB, which also makes the occasion that bit more memorable. The organisation throughout was brilliant too; from the fun and lively warm-up to the well-staffed bag drop.

Thanks to everyone in the Aspire team for taking part!
